Goodwell, Oklahoma – The Pioneers continue their dominant run after sweeping Friday's doubleheader at Oklahoma Panhandle State University to make it 10 wins in their last 12 games and an 8-6 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Wayland Baptist shutout the Aggies in game one, 3-0, and they took down the Aggies 6-4 in game two.
After two scoreless innings to begin game one, Wayland Baptist cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the 3
rd after
Reagan Davis smacked a single to center field to score
Jadyn Fernandez from second to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Addy Rich continued to shut down the Aggies lineup after finishing her 3
rd scoreless inning, and she got more run support in the top of the 4
th when
Abcde Garcia scored
Arianna Zubia on an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
Rich allowed two runners to reach in the bottom of the 5
th, but she was able to generate soft contact off the Aggie bats to get three popouts to end the inning. The Pioneers scored one final insurance run in the top of the 7
th after Davis hit another RBI single to score Fernandez to make it 3-0. Rich once again garnered soft contact and capped off her complete game shutout of the Aggies to secure a 3-0 win in game one.
Addy Rich was dominant once again for the Pioneers as she tossed a complete game shutout to pick up her 5
th win on the year and lower her season ERA to 2.77. She threw seven scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, walked one batter, and had one strikeout.
Davis finished 3-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Fernandez went 1-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Wayland Baptist fell behind in the bottom of the 1
st of game two after the Aggies scored on an RBI single to make it 1-0, OPSU. The Pioneers answered in the top of the 2
nd after a leadoff single by
Jenna Sepeda and a bunt single by Fernandez put two runners on base.
Madison Martinez drilled a double to score Sepeda from second to tie the game up at 1. Fernandez continued her strong play throughout Friday's doubleheader with an RBI single to center field to score Zubia to make it 2-1, WBU. OPSU knocked in 3 runs in the bottom of the 3
rd to take a 4-2 lead into the 4
th inning.
The Pioneer offense erupted in the top of the 4
th, and it started when Martinez hit a leadoff triple to right and immediately scored when Davis singled to make it 4-3, OPSU. The Pioneers got two runners into scoring position for
Berkley Bradley, who proceeded to hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Davis from third to tie the game at 4. K.J. Ray followed Bradley with a single that scored Zubia to give the Pioneers a 5-4 lead.
After
Amber Poorbaugh pitched a scoreless 4
th inning with some help from a double play, the Pioneers took a 6-4 lead in the top of the 5
th when Martinez smacked a single that scored Fernandez from third. Poorbaugh finished her outing by retiring the final nine Aggie hitters to give the Pioneers a 6-4 win in game two to secure the Friday sweep of OPSU.
Martinez went 3-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Fernandez went 3-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Davis finished 2-5 with two singles, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Zubia finished 2-4 with two singles, two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.
Amber Poorbaugh pitched a complete game for the Pioneers in game two, and she was solid picking up her 4
th win on the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing 4 runs, 7 hits, one walk, and striking out 10 Aggie hitters.
Wayland Baptist will complete their 4-game weekend series at Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is set for 12:00 PM.
