Abilene, TX - The Lady Pioneers fought hard and showed tremendous grit as they faced the McMurry Lady War Hawks Friday evening. The game was delayed due to a van breakdown, but that did not put a dent in the fight of the WBU women's soccer team.
The game was tied 0-0 at halftime, in fact the game remained tied until McMurry scored a goal in the 63rd minute. The Lady War Hawks tacked on a late goal in the 89th minute to make the final score 2-0.
The Lady Pioneers played hard defensively and made things difficult for McMurry.
Raelyn Stone had six saves in goal.
Wayland was aggressive on the offensive end, firing off ten shots.
Ashley Perez had five shots on the evening while
Elaina Barrientes managed two shots, one on goal.
Hayde' Gallardo and
Paula Cubillos both had one shot on goal and
Meagan Picon added a shot.
Coach
Shiloh Posey had these comments about the game, "Regardless of this result, these ladies worked their guts out , and gave us their best tonight. I can't express how much I wish they could have gotten the win - the work they put in deserved that result. We have to continue to work at some things, and we have another good opportunity on Thursday against UTPB. We will focus on the specific areas we believe need to be addressed and come prepared. I am very proud of these ladies, and could not ask for more than they are giving."
As Coach Posey alluded to, the Lady Pioneers return home Thursday to face UT Permian Basin at 5:00 PM.
