Plainview, Texas - In the final game prior to Sooner Athletic Conference play, the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team defeated Sul Ross State University 2-0 to extend their winning streak to three games. The Pioneers outplayed the NCAA Division II Lobos, who entered the contest with a 4-1 record.
The first half featured plenty of action, but ended in a 0-0 tie.
Dario Catalan scored the first goal for the Pioneers in the 54th minute, on an assist from
Jamol Williams.
Only five minutes later,
Jamol Williams scored his sixth goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0.
Jose Colina assisted on the goal by Williams.
The Pioneers defense was outstanding and goal keeper
Alex Neri had eight saves in the shut out victory.
The victory gives Wayland a record of 5-3 as they travel to face #13 Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City to open SAC play Saturday at 2:30 PM.
