Plainview, TX – Wayland Baptist and John Brown faced off Saturday in the Sooner Athletic Conference Oklahoma Ford Dealers Game of the Week. The Pioneers entered the game in first place in the conference with a record of 9-1. John Brown trailed Wayland by 1.5 games with a 7-2 record. The game was closely contested for the first ten minutes of the first half. The Pioneers took an early lead and led by 5 points, 12-7, with 14:54 remaining in the half when
Brett Leach made his second three pointer. The Golden Eagles fought back to take their largest lead of the game at 24-19 with 10:11 left to play in the first half. The Pioneers went on a 20-7 run and led 39-31 at halftime.
The visitors got as close as 1 twice in the second half, but each time the Pioneers responded and led by 15 with 3:52 left in the game. John Brown hit some clutch shots to get as close as 6 points, but WBU came away with an 82-75 win.
For the second straight game in 2025,
Quenton Coleman scored over 30 points to lead the Pioneers in scoring. Coleman was 9 of 14 from the field, 5 of 8 from 3 and 8 for 8 from the free throw line. He also added 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Kabine Kaba contributed 15 points and 9 rebounds in the winning effort.
Dylan McDougal was the third Pioneer in double figures with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
James Lee came up big off the bench with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
Brett Leach scored 9 points, going 3 for 5 from the three point line, and 2 rebounds along with 1 assist.
Alex Rojas added 4 points, 3 rebounds, a steal and a block in his first action this season.
Julian Perez scored 3 points and
Joshua Tucker scored 1 point and had a steal in addition to being a defensive stalwart.
The Pioneers travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Panhandle State University Monday at 8:00 PM.
