PLAINVIEW, TX --Wayland Baptist volleyball wrapped up its 2025 home schedule in commanding fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Central Christian (25-12, 25-10, 25-22) inside the Hutcherson Center. The win lifts the Pioneers to 13-9 overall and 12-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers fell to 4-20, 2-16.
The Pioneers were dominant from start to finish, hitting an efficient .231 on the day while holding Central Christian to a negative hitting percentage. Wayland's balanced offense kept the Tigers on their heels, with
Deniz Yileri leading the attack with 15 kills on a blistering .429 hitting percentage.
Taisiia Kalchenko added 8 kills, while
Fade Ogunbade chipped in another 8 to round out a powerful front-line performance.
Setter
Martyna Lewinska kept the offense humming with 37 assists, effectively distributing the ball across the lineup. Wayland also controlled the serve and back row, registering 10 service aces and 71 digs as a team. Yileri and Kalchenko each delivered two aces, while
Milena Alliot-Maslankiewicz and
Averi Penner added three apiece.
Defensively, the Pioneers were anchored by
Aubrie Sierra, who led the way with nine digs, and Kalchenko, who tallied 16. Wayland's blocking unit was also sharp, with Ogunbade and Lewinska each recording two block assists to stifle Central Christian's attack.
Wayland dominated the first two sets, cruising to 25-12 and 25-10 victories. The Pioneers faced a bit more resistance in the third, but timely kills and aggressive serving sealed the sweep with a 25-22 win.
Wayland Baptist will now hit the road for the final stretch of the regular season, looking to carry this momentum into next week's conference matches. First up will be a contest against Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
