PLAINVIEW, TX -- Wayland Baptist volleyball put together one of its most complete performances of the season Friday night, sweeping the University of Science & Arts (Okla.) (25–20, 25–16, 25–17) inside the Hutcherson Center.
The Pioneers (7–7, 6–4 SAC) dominated from start to finish, hitting an impressive .304 as a team while holding the visiting Drovers (11–8, 5–5 SAC) to just .089. The win snapped a two-match skid and gave Wayland momentum heading into the heart of SAC play.
Averi Penner led the attack with 11 kills on .333 hitting, while senior middle hitter
Fade Ogunbade added nine kills without an error for a .474 clip and a match-high 11.5 points.
Carlee Heidebrecht and
Deniz Yileri each contributed offensively as well, recording eight and seven kills, respectively.

Martyna Lewinska kept the offense humming with 34 assists and added seven digs, while libero
Rachel Russell anchored the defense with 11 digs. Wayland's front line was equally sharp, totaling 7 blocks as a team, led by Ogunbade and
Emma Scott, who combined for five.
The Pioneers came out strong in the opening set, hitting .429 to grab control early. They continued to apply pressure in the second and third sets, never allowing the Drovers to find rhythm.
With the win, Wayland improved to .500 on the season and 6–4 in Sooner Athletics Conference play.
Wayland Baptist will look to carry that momentum forward when the Pioneers return to the court Saturday, October 4th, for another home SAC matchup against Mid-America Christian University. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM at the Hutcherson Center.
