CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Wayland Baptist volleyball responded to their Friday night loss with authority on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Science & Arts of Oklahoma in straight sets (25–19, 25–20, 25–12) at Drover Fieldhouse. The victory improves the Pioneers to 14-10 overall and 13-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Wayland's offense fired on all cylinders, hitting a sharp .339 as a team and controlling the match from start to finish.
Emma Scott and
Carlee Heidebrecht each tallied 12 kills, leading a balanced Pioneer attack that saw four players record at least six kills.
Setter
Martyna Lewinska orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out 39 assists and adding a pair of blocks and a service ace.
Fade Ogunbade also had a standout day at the net with nine kills, a .438 attack rate, and two block assists.
Defensively, the Pioneers were anchored by Milena Maslankiewicz, who posted 16 digs, while
Rachel Russell chipped in six. USAO outdug Wayland 55–53, but the Pioneers made their touches count, turning defense into consistent transition offense that kept the Drovers on their heels.
After controlling the first two sets, the Pioneers put the match away emphatically in the third, hitting .452 and holding USAO to a -.067 percentage in the frame.
The Pioneers will face one of their toughest tests of the season on Friday, November 7
th when they travel to Fort Worth to take on the SAC-leading Rams of Texas Wesleyan University. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
