GREAT FALLS, Mont. --- The (RV) Wayland Baptist Flying Queens came out strong Saturday evening but couldn't sustain the momentum, falling 55–36 to (RV) University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana.
The Flying Queens (0–3) opened the game with their best quarter of the young season, racing to a 12–4 lead behind sharp shooting from
Peyton North and
Cania Mitchell, who combined for 10 first-quarter points. North knocked down a pair of three-pointers, while Mitchell scored inside and helped the Queens control the tempo early.
Wayland maintained its edge through much of the second quarter before Providence (3–0) heated up from the field, outscoring the Queens 22–13 in the period to take a 26–25 halftime lead.
The second half, however, proved difficult for Wayland. The Flying Queens struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting just 27.7 percent from the field and 19 percent from three for the game. A four-point third quarter allowed the Argos to extend their lead, and Providence finished strong with a 21-point fourth to seal the win.
North and Mitchell paced Wayland with eight points each, while
Bella Dabbs added five. Off the bench,
Ksenija Djokic contributed six points and three rebounds, and
Teodora Popovic chipped in five points and two steals.
Despite the loss, the Queens showed flashes of progress—particularly in the first half, where they executed well and limited Providence to just two made field goals in the opening quarter. Wayland also forced 13 turnovers and competed on the boards against a taller Argos front line.
Providence was led by Ainsley Thurber's double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Flying Queens will look to regroup and capture their first win of the season as they return to Plainview for their home opener on Friday, November 14
th against Northern New Mexico College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM at the Hutcherson Center.
