Pioneers Win Finale at USAO Behind 4 RBIs from Jauz

Chickasha, Okla. --- The Pioneers salvaged the three-game series against the Drovers of Science & Arts (Okla.) by picking up a 10-6 victory in the final game of the set.

Wayland Baptist wasted no time getting the offense rolling in this one as they scored two first inning runs thanks to a Cooper Jauz RBI double and Sinclair Pimentel sacrifice fly. The Pioneer offense exploded in the top of the 2nd for five runs on five hits, and it started with a Raphael Beltre Toledo RBI single to make it 3-0. Jauz then delivered the big blow for the Pioneers by crushing a three-run homer – his 2nd home run this season – to make it 6-0, WBU. Arcadio Frausto capped off the huge inning with an RBI single to make it 7-0 Pioneers.

The Drovers would eventually score their first run in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single that made it 7-1, Pioneers. In the top of the 6th, the Pioneers scored two more runs after Samuel Fabian stole second and proceeded to score on a Drover error, followed by a solo shot from Christian Toledo – his 2nd home run this season – to give the Pioneers a 9-1 lead.

The Drovers battled back in the bottom of the 6th by scoring four runs on four hits, including a three-run homer, to trim their deficit to 9-5. Neither team was able to score any runs across the 7th and 8th, but the Pioneers got a run in the top of the 9th after another sacrifice fly from Pimentel made it 10-5.

The Drovers scored one run in the bottom of the 9th, but Juan Gil-Franco slammed the door to secure the 10-6 victory for the Pioneers in this series finale.
