Pioneers Score 28 Runs in Friday Sweep of OPSU

Goodwell, Okla. --- The Pioneer offense exploded for 28 runs across two games as they sweep the Friday doubleheader at Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Pioneers secured the 9-6 win in game one and then absolutely dominated game two, 19-4.
 
 
GAME ONE
 
Wayland Baptist wasted no time getting the offense started in game one, scoring a first inning run off an Arcadio Frausto RBI double to make it 1-0. The Aggies answered back in the bottom of the 3rd for their first run of the game to even the scoring at 1-1.
 
Delvis Claudio helped the Pioneers retake the lead in the top of the 4th with a solo shot to left – his 7th home run on the season – to make it 2-1.
 
The Pioneers took a commanding lead in the top of the 6th after scoring five runs on five hits. The hit parade started when Claudio drove in Frausto with an RBI single to make it 3-1. Samuel Fabian followed up with an RBI double that extended the lead to 4-1. Vann Johnson then got in on the action with an RBI double to make it 5-1, Pioneers. Cooper Jauz capped off the massive inning with a two-run double to give the Pioneers a 7-1 lead.
 
Fabian added two more insurance runs for the Pioneers in the top of the 7th with a two-run bomb – his 9th home run on the season – to make it 9-1, Wayland Baptist.
 
The Aggies wouldn't go down without a fight as they scored five runs in the bottom of the 7th – a grand slam being the big blow – to make it 9-5, WBU. The Aggies got one more run to make it 9-6, but Tyson Potts slammed the door and secured the 9-6 game one win for the Pioneers.
 
Fabian went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Claudio finished 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Frausto went 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
 
Tate House got the start for the Pioneers in game one, and he battled over 3.1 innings – only giving up one run, five walks, and one strikeout. House earned the win and is now 3-0 on the season with a 1.93 ERA over 14.0 innings.
 
 
GAME TWO
 
Game two was utter domination from Wayland Baptist as they manufactured 19 runs on 15 hits. The action started immediately as Frausto made it 2-0 in the top of the 1st after smoking a two-run double to center. Brayden Peyton then delivered the big blow of the inning when he crushed a three-run shot to left – his 4th home run this season – to make it 5-0 Pioneers after the first inning.
Sinclair Pimentel continued the offensive explosion in the top of the 2nd after hitting an RBI single to make it 6-0, Pioneers. Felix Polanco followed with another RBI single to extend their lead to 7-0. Fabian capped off the four-run inning with a two-run double to make it 9-0 Wayland Baptist after two innings.
 
The Pioneers added another crooked number to the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd starting with a two-run single from Frausto to make it 11-0, WBU. Peyton added another RBI after working a bases-loaded walk to make it 12-0 after three innings.
 
The Aggies eventually scored their first run in the bottom of the 4th, but Polanco go the run back for the Pioneers in the top of the 4th with a solo shot to center – his 4th home run this season – to make it 13-1, WBU. Frausto tacked on another run for the Pioneers in the top of the 6th with a sacrifice fly to make it 14-1.
 
OPSU got two more runs in the bottom of the 6th with a two-run home run to make it 14-3, but the Pioneer offense erupted once again in the top of the 7th. Riley Watson put the Pioneers ahead 15-3 with an RBI single. Adrian Lara then recorded his first RBI of the season after being plunked by a pitch with the bases-loaded to score a run and make it 16-3. With the bases still loaded and Axel Guerrero stepping to the plate, Guerrero joined the parade by clearing the bases with a three-run double to make it 19-3, Pioneers.
 
OPSU scored one more run in the bottom of the 7th on a wild pitch, but that was all the offense they could generate as the Pioneers secured the overwhelming 19-4 game two win.
 
Frausto finished game two going 2 for 3 with a double, five RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Polanco went 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a hit by pitch. Pimentel went 1 for 1 with an RBI, three walks, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Christian Toledo went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and a stolen base.
 
Branin Seibert made the start in game two for the Pioneers, and he was terrific in the win. Seibert's final line was 6.0 innings, three runs allowed, three walks, and five strikeouts. Seibert is now 4-1 with a 3.34 ERA over 29.2 innings this season.

The Pioneers will conclude their three-game road set at SAC foe Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, March 1st with a single nine-inning game that is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
