Bethany, Okla. --- The Pioneers were able to take down the Eagles in game one of today's doubleheader, 4-1, but Southwestern Christian worked the split by winning game two, 5-3. The Pioneers finished their first road weekend in Sooner Athletic Conference play 2-2.

GAME ONE

Wayland Baptist couldn't have asked for a better start at the dish to begin game one.
Mikayla Carrillo led off the game with a solo bomb to center to make it 1-0.
Arianna Zubia then singled up the middle, but
Brooklyn Araujo would drive her in with a two-run shot to left – her 2
nd home run this season – to make it 3-0, Pioneers.

The Pioneers would get one more run in the top of the 6
th after
Addy Rich dropped down a bunt single to score
Christian Moyers from third to make it 4-0. The Eagles finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6
th for one run, but Pioneer starting pitcher
Amber Poorbaugh slammed the door in the bottom of the 7
th to secure the 4-1 win for the Pioneers.

Poorbaugh was outstanding as the game one starter for Wayland Baptist – throwing a complete game (7.0 innings), only allowing one run, two hits, four walks, while striking out six Eagle hitters. Poorbaugh secured her first win of the season – making her 1-2 on the young campaign.

Araujo led the Pioneers by going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. Carrillo went 1 for 4 with a solo homer. Moyers finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

GAME TWO
Â
Wayland Baptist opened the scoring in game two after Poorbaugh singled to right center to score Araujo from second and make it 1-0. The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the 1
st with a run of their own – a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

The Eagles delivered the big blow in the bottom of the 3
rd by scoring three runs on two hits to take a 4-1 lead over the Pioneers. The Eagles scored one more run in the bottom of the 5
th to extend their lead to 5-1, but the Pioneers wouldn't go down without a fight.

Berkley Bradley got a run back for the Pioneers in the top of the 6
th with an RBI double to make it 5-2.
Kailee Sanchez would make it 5-3 after driving in Poorbaugh with a sacrifice fly, but the Eagles would stifle the Pioneer offense and end the comeback. The Pioneers were unable to tie the game in the 7
th and fell short, 5-3, to Southwestern Christian in game two.

Araujo went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Poorbaugh finished 2 for 3 with two singles, an RBI, and a run scored. Bradley went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, March 4
th when they travel to Hobbs, New Mexico for a mid-week doubleheader against a non-conference opponent, the University of the Southwest (NM) Mustangs. Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM, and game two will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
