Jerden and Nestor Combine for 61 Points in Win Over JBU to Propel Queens into SAC Semis

Plainview --- The #20 Flying Queens got 61 combined points from Kaitlyn Jerden and Megan Nestor to propel them over the Golden Eagles of John Brown University in the Opening Round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championships presented by the Oklahoma Ford Dealers.

Wayland Baptist couldn't have asked for a better first three minutes of the game – jumping out to an 8-0 lead behind five quick points from Jerden. Nestor put the Queens up 18-7 after finishing a tough bucket on the interior with just over one minute remaining in the opening quarter. Jerden would cap off her nine-point first quarter with a nice jumper to put the Queens ahead by 11, but the Golden Eagles sunk a jumper just before time expired to make it 20-11 Flying Queens at the end of the first.

Nestor and Jerden got the Queens offense rolling again to begin the second quarter by scoring the first five points to extend their lead to 25-11. Jerden later extended the Queens lead to 32-16 after knocking down her third three-pointer of the night and second of the quarter. The Golden Eagles began battling back after executing a 9-0 scoring run to trim their deficit to 7 points, but the Queens ended their run by scoring the next five points, including a Nestor and-one, to push their lead back up to double-figures. Jerden scored the final six points of the quarter for the Queens and lifted them to a 43-32 lead at the halftime break.

The third quarter was completely dominated by Nestor and Jerden as the duo combined for 18 of the Queens' 24 points in the frame. Mid-way through the third quarter, Jerden found Nestor down low for a tough and-one that put the Queens ahead 54-40. Jerden then put the Queens up 66-49 with just over a minute left in the quarter after knocking down her fourth and fifth three-pointers of the night. The Golden Eagles would once again score a basket just before time expired, giving the Queens a 67-51 lead heading into the final period.

Nestor continued her takeover to begin the fourth as she scored the Queens' first 10 points of the frame to push their lead up to 77-57 – their largest lead of the game. Bobbie Fouquet would put the Queens ahead 82-65 after knocking down her second three-pointer of the night with just over three minutes left in the game. Addison Pitts capped off the night with a beautiful pick-and-roll layup off the dish from Jadyn Trusler to lock down the 92-75 Opening Round victory for the Flying Queens.
