Fort Worth --- The Pioneers suffered a tough sweep of Friday's doubleheader at Texas Wesleyan to open the four-game road series. Wayland Baptist struggled in a 17-3 game one loss, then the Rams escaped game two with a 6-5 win in extra innings.

GAME ONE
Â
Wayland Baptist struggled in game one – both at the plate and on the mound. Texas Wesleyan opened the scoring in the first inning with one run, but the Rams delivered a massive blow to the Pioneers in the bottom of the 2
nd – scoring eight runs on six hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

Texas Wesleyan struck for three more runs in the bottom of the 3
rd to extend their lead to 12-0. The Pioneer offense was able to crack the scoreboard in the top of the 4
th after
Addy Rich drove an RBI double to make it 12-1.
Amber Poorbaugh followed up with an RBI single to make it 12-2.
Berkley Bradley drove Poorbaugh in with an RBI single to make it 12-3, Rams.

The Rams offense answered back emphatically in their half of the 4
th after scoring five more runs on four hits to take a 17-3 lead, which is how the scoring would conclude in game one.

Rich finished 2 for 3 with a double, and RBI, and a run scored.
Brooklyn Araujo went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Poorbaugh finished 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Bradley went 2 for 2 with an RBI.

GAME TWO
Â
Texas Wesleyan jumped ahead of the Pioneers in the bottom of the 1
st with two early runs on two RBI singles. The Rams tacked on another run in the bottom of the 3
rd with a solo home run to take a 3-0 lead.

Wayland Baptist struggled to get anything going offensively until the top of the 6
th.
Mikayla Carrillo clubbed a two-run homer to get the Pioneers on the board – her 2
nd home run this season – to make it 3-2, Rams. The Pioneers tied the game in the top of the 7
th after
Christian Moyers was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to even the score at 3-3 and force extra innings.

The Pioneers would take the lead in the top of the 8
th after
Cayman Ivins reached on a Ram error that allowed a run to score, making it 4-3, Pioneers. The Rams answered back with one run in the bottom of the 8
th to force the game to continue.

Rich put the Pioneers ahead in the top of the 9
th with an RBI single to make it 5-4, but the Rams answered back with two runs in their half of the 9
th to walk-off the Pioneers 6-5Â and secure the sweep.

Carrillo finished 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Bradley went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Moyers went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a hit by pitch.
Arianna Zubia went 2 for 5.
