Pioneers Suffer Tough Extra Innings Loss at Texas Wesleyan and Drop Doubleheader

Fort Worth --- The Pioneers suffered a tough sweep of Friday's doubleheader at Texas Wesleyan to open the four-game road series. Wayland Baptist struggled in a 17-3 game one loss, then the Rams escaped game two with a 6-5 win in extra innings.

GAME ONE

Wayland Baptist struggled in game one – both at the plate and on the mound. Texas Wesleyan opened the scoring in the first inning with one run, but the Rams delivered a massive blow to the Pioneers in the bottom of the 2nd – scoring eight runs on six hits to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

Texas Wesleyan struck for three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd to extend their lead to 12-0. Berkley Bradley drove Poorbaugh in with an RBI single to make it 12-3, Rams.

The Rams offense answered back emphatically in their half of the 4th after scoring five more runs on four hits to take a 17-3 lead, which is how the scoring would conclude in game one.

Mikayla Carrillo clubbed a two-run homer to get the Pioneers on the board – her 2nd home run this season – to make it 3-2, Rams. The Pioneers tied the game in the top of the 7th after Christian Moyers was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to even the score at 3-3 and force extra innings.

The Pioneers would take the lead in the top of the 8th after Cayman Ivins reached on a Ram error that allowed a run to score, making it 4-3, Pioneers. The Rams answered back with one run in the bottom of the 8th to force the game to continue.
