Araujo Walks-Off Game One, Armstrong Ks 10 in Game Two as Pioneers Sweep Doubleheader from Lions

Plainview --- The Pioneers took care of business against Friday afternoon against Langston by sweeping the doubleheader from the Lions. Wayland Baptist secured the 7-6 walk-off win in game one followed by a 8-0 six-inning, run-rule victory in game two.
 
 
GAME ONE
 
The game was scoreless over the first two innings of play, but Langston struck first in the top of the 3rd with three runs on two hits, including a two-run home run, to take a 3-0 lead over the Pioneers.
 
Kailee Sanchez got the Pioneers offense rolling in the bottom of the 4th after driving a two-run single that scored Berkley Bradley and Addy Rich to make it 3-2, Lions. The Lions got those two runs back in the top of the 5th and extended their lead to 5-2.
 
The Pioneer offense began to come alive in the bottom of the 5th, and it started with Rich driving an RBI double to center to trim the Pioneer deficit to two. Bradley would then erase that deficit entirely after smoking a two-run triple to left to even the score up at 5-5 after five innings of play.
 
Cayman Ivins knocked in a massive go-ahead run for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single to make it 6-5, but the Lions wouldn't go down without a fight and tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the 7th.
 
The Pioneers wasted no time walking off the Lions in the bottom of the 7th. Mikayla Carrillo led the inning off with a massive triple, then Brooklyn Araujo clinched the 7-6 win for the Pioneers with a walk-off double.
 
Bradley finished 1 for 2 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored. Kailee Sanchez went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Carrillo finished 1 for 2 with a triple, two walks, and two runs scored. Rich went 1 for 2 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.
 
 
GAME TWO
 
Wayland Baptist controlled game two from the very first inning and never looked back. Rich drove in the first run of the game for the Pioneers with a first-inning RBI single to make it 1-0, WBU.
 
Araujo added a pair of runs for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 2nd with a two-run single that scored Ivins and Abcde Garcia to make it 3-0.
 
Rich would add two more runs for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 4th after driving a two-run single to make it 5-0. Bradley immediately followed Rich with an RBI single to center to give the Pioneers a 6-0 lead after four innings.
 
Kailee Sanchez clinched the 8-0 run-rule victory for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 6th inning after smacking a bases-loaded single to right that scored Bradley and Carrillo.
 
Rich led the Pioneers offensively in game two by going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Bradley went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Arianna Zubia went 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored. Kailee Sanchez went 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Araujo went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored.
 
Adriana Armstrong got the start for the Pioneers in game two, and she was nearly unhittable. Armstrong threw 6.0 scoreless innings, only allowing three hits, no walks, while striking out ten Lions hitters.
 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Pioneers will conclude their four-game series against the Lions on Saturday, March 22nd with another doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
