Plainview --- After suffering a tough 2-0 eight inning loss to Oklahoma Panhandle State in game one, the Pioneers responded nicely in game two for a 5-4 victory to salvage a split of Friday's doubleheader.

GAME ONE

Wayland Baptist starting pitcher
Addy Rich was outstanding this afternoon, but the offense just couldn't get in a rhythm after being held to four hits and a walk in the opener. Rich tossed all 8.0 innings for the Pioneers, allowing two runs – both in the 8
th inning – with only one walk and seven punchouts. Rich worked soft contact from Aggie hitters for the majority of this contest and limited damage extremely well.

Mikayla Carrillo finished game one going 1 for 3 with a stolen base. Rich finished 1 for 3 from the plate with a stolen base.

GAME TWO
Â
After not being able to manufacture any runs in the series opener, the Pioneers opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2
nd in game two after
Cayman Ivins reached base on an Aggie error that allowed
Berkley Bradley and
Christian Moyers to score and make it 2-0. The Pioneers added one more run in the bottom of the 2
nd after a sacrifice fly from
Arianna Zubia scored
Kailee Sanchez from third to make it 3-0 after two innings.

The Aggies wasted no time notching the game up in the top of the 3
rd after scoring three runs to make it 3-3.

Zubia would give the Pioneers the lead back in the bottom of the 4
th with a single that scored
Kailee Sanchez to make it 4-3, WBU. Sanchez added a massive insurance run for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 6
th after dropping down a sacrifice squeeze bunt that scored Moyers from third to give them a 5-3 lead late.

The Aggies added a run in the top of the 7
th and still had runners on first and second with just one out, but
Adriana Armstrong capped off her resilient performance with a game-inning 6-4-3 double play to clinch the 5-4 win for the Pioneers.

Zubia finished 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Bradley went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Moyers finished 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored.
Kailee Sanchez finished with two walks, a sacrifice bunt, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Armstrong got the nod as the game two starter for the Pioneers, and she battled to earn her 7
th win of the season (7-5 on the season). Armstrong threw all 7.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned), five walks, and eight strikeouts.
