Hobbs --- Wayland Baptist earned a mid-week sweep of the University of the Southwest (NM) behind a solid pitching performance from
Adriana Armstrong and
Amber Poorbaugh. The Pioneers earned a 3-0 shutout in game one, then they followed up with a 9-1 win in six innings in game two.

GAME ONE
Â
The Pioneers did all of their offensive damage in the top of the 3
rd, scoring three runs on two hits and an error. The rally started with
Berkley Bradley driving in the first run of the game with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
Christian Moyers later followed up with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, WBU.
Kailee Sanchez capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 3-0, WBU.

The Pioneers went on to win game one 3-0 –
Adriana Armstrong being the biggest contributor to this one. Armstrong pitched a complete game shutout with only four hits allowed, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Bradley finished 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Arianna Zubia went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
Brooklyn Araujo went 1 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.

GAME TWO
Â
Wayland Baptist dominated the Mustangs in game two, and the offense wasted no time taking an early lead after a five-run top of the 2
nd. The big inning started when
Mikenzi Carlo ripped a two-run double to make it 2-0. Araujo later followed with a bases-clearing triple to give the Pioneers a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Mustangs scored their first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the 2
nd after an RBI single, but the Pioneers got that run back immediately in the top of the 3
rd after
Addy Rich drove a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1, WBU.

Araujo added another run for the Pioneers in the top of the 4
th with an RBI single to score Bradley and make it 7-1. Araujo would later score after Moyers reached on a Mustang error to make it 8-1, Pioneers after four innings.

The Pioneers added one more run in the top of the 6
th on another sacrifice fly from Moyers to make it 9-1, and
Erin Trevino slammed the door on the Mustangs in the bottom of the 6
th to enforce the 8-run after 6 inning run-rule – giving the Pioneers a 9-1 victory.

Amber Poorbaugh made the start for the Pioneers in game two, and she tossed five outstanding innings, only allowing one run, two walks, and four strikeouts. Trevino threw one scoreless inning with a strikeout.

Araujo led the Pioneers offensively going 3 for 4 with a triple, four RBIs, and a run scored. Moyers finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Mikenzi Carlo went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The Pioneers will face their toughest test of the season as they host their first Sooner Athletic Conference home series of the season against the #3 University of Science & Arts (Okla.) Drovers for a four-game tilt beginning Thursday, March 6
th. Game one of Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
