Pioneers Battle but Can't Overcome #3 USAO, Suffer Four-Game Sweep

Plainview --- The NAIA 3rd ranked Science & Arts (Okla.) Drovers proved to be too overpowering for the Pioneers on Friday as they took both games from Wayland Baptist to secure the 4-0 sweep. The Pioneers fell short, 13-2, in game one, then the Drovers followed that with a 10-1 win in game two.

GAME ONE

Wayland Baptist fell behind early in game one after the Drovers hit a two-run home run in the top of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers got a run back in the bottom of the 1st after Brooklyn Araujo smashed an RBI triple to score Arianna Zubia from second to make it 2-1, USAO. Addy Rich followed that with an RBI sacrifice fly to score Araujo and tie the game up at 2-2.

The Drover offense erupted over the final three innings to put this game out of reach – scoring 11 runs to secure a 13-2 win over Wayland Baptist in game one.

Araujo finished 1 for 2 with a triple, and RBI, and a run scored. Araujo's triple was the lone hit for the Pioneers in game one.

GAME TWO

After neither team was able to score a run in the opening frame, the Drovers continued their torrid hitting in the top of the 2nd by scoring six runs on seven hits. Araujo got the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI double that scored Zubia from first to make it 6-1.

The Drovers answered with two runs in the 4th and two runs in the 5th to take a 10-1 lead and secure the game two win, ultimately securing the four-game sweep of the Pioneers.

Araujo finished 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Berkley Bradley, Christian Moyers, and Mikenzi Carlo each recorded a single.
