Plainview – The Pioneers hosted the #5 ranked Oklahoma City Stars in Sooner Athletic Conference softball action Friday. Despite the lofty rankings of the visiting team, the Pioneers fought hard and both games of the double-header were very competitive.
Game One
Starting pitcher
Adriana Armstrong held #5 OCU scoreless for the first four innings until the Stars finally broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the victory.
The Pioneers threatened in the third inning when
Christian Moyers hit a two out double to left and Ariana Zubia was hit by a pitch, but OCU came up with the third out to snuff out the threat.
For the game, the Pioneers were held to four hits.
Game Two
The Pioneers and Stars battled through two scoreless innings before OCU scratched out two runs in the third and added another in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
Wayland came within a run when they scored two in the bottom of the fourth.
Amber Poorbaugh singled to right center to start the rally. Poorbaugh scored when
Berkley Bradley reached on an error and advance to third on an errant throw. Bradley scored the second run on a single by
Makayla Sanchez.
OCU added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to come away with the 5-2 win.

Wayland and Oklahoma City face off in another double-header Saturday at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
