Oklahoma City, Okla. – A big offensive output in game one helps the Pioneers earn a split of Thursday's doubleheaders at Mid-America Christian to open this four-game series. The Pioneers earned an 8-5 win in game one, but the Evangels responded with a 9-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE
Wayland Baptist jumped ahead of the Evangels early after
Brooklyn Araujo drove an RBI double to right that gave Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 1
st.
The Evangels answered back with three runs in the bottom of the 2
nd to take a two-run lead, but the Pioneer offense erupted in the top of the 3
rd in a big way.
Addy Rich was able to reach base after an Evangel fielding error, which allowed
Christian Moyers to scramble home and score to make it 3-2, MACU.
Amber Poorbaugh followed that with a two-run double that put the Pioneers ahead, 4-3. The big inning was capped off by a
Berkley Bradley RBI single that extended the Pioneers advantage to 5-3.
The offense wasn't finished for Wayland Baptist as
Mikayla Carrillo added another run in the top of the 4
th with an RBI single to make it 6-3, WBU. Araujo added another RBI to her stat line after smoking a single to left to push the Pioneers ahead 7-3.
Mikenzi Carlo added one more insurance run for the Pioneers in the top of the 7
th with a sacrifice fly that made it 8-3.
The Evangels wouldn't go down without a fight and scored two runs in the bottom of the 7
th, but
Erin Trevino slammed the door on MACU and secured the 8-5 game one victory for the Pioneers.
Araujo led the Pioneers offensively by going 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs, two walks, and a run scored. Carrillo finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Poorbaugh went 1 for 3 with a double, a hit by pitch, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Bradley went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a walk.
GAME TWO
After neither team was able to scratch across any runs over the first two innings of play, Wayland Baptist finally opened the scoring in the top of the 3
rd after Rich slapped a single to right to make it 1-0.
The Evangels answered back resoundingly in the bottom of the 3
rd for five runs to take a four-run lead over the Pioneers. That lead was extended to 7-1 in the bottom of the 5
th after the Evangels manufactured two more runs and took command of game two.
MACU added two more runs in the bottom of the 6
th to secure the six-inning, 9-1 victory over the Pioneers in game two.
Rich finished 1 for 3 with an RBI. Araujo went 2 for 3 with two singles and a run scored. Poorbaugh finished 2 for 3 with two singles.

The Pioneers will wrap-up this four-game series against the Evangels with another doubleheader on Friday, April 18
th in Oklahoma City. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
