Plainview --- It was a tough Senior Day for the Pioneers as the Lions took both games of today's doubleheader to conclude the 2025 regular season. The Lions stole game one 2-1 in eight innings, then they followed that with a 7-2 win over the Pioneers in game two.

GAME ONE
Â
Nelson opened the scoring in the top of the 1
st with an RBI single to center that made it 1-0 early.

The Pioneers just couldn't manufacture much offense for the majority game one, but they finally came through in the bottom of the 7
th after freshman
Mikenzi Carlo dropped down a great bunt that was then misplayed by the Lions, which allowed
Amber Poorbaugh to cross home and even the score at 1-1.

Once the game went to extra-innings, the Lions started with the automatic runner at second base to begin the inning, and she came across to score immediately in the top of the 8
th to push Nelson ahead, 2-1.

Wayland Baptist was unable to extend the game and fell short 2-1 in eight innings.
Â
Brooklyn Araujo was the only Pioneer hitter to record multiple hits in game one, going 2 for 4 with a double and a single.

Adriana Armstrong gave the Pioneers every opportunity to win the game given how she pitched this afternoon. The junior tossed 8.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), three walks, and seven strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Â
Game two remained scoreless across the first three innings of play, but Nelson took a commanding 7-0 lead in the top of the 4
th that was deflating for the Pioneers.

In her final home at-bat, Araujo put the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the 6
th with a solo bomb to left – her team-leading 6
th home run of the season - to make it 7-1, Lions.

Kailee Sanchez tacked on another run in the bottom of the 6
th with a sacrifice fly that scored Poorbaugh to make it 7-2, Lions.

Nelson wouldn't allow the Pioneers to score anymore runs as they secured the 7-2 win in game two for the sweep of Friday's doubleheader.

Araujo finished 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a single.
Addy Rich finished 1 for 3 with a single.
Mikayla Carrillo went 1 for 4 with a single. Poorbaugh finished 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

The Pioneers have qualified for the 2025 SAC Softball Championships, which will be played in Oklahoma City on the campuses of Oklahoma City University and Science & Arts (Okla.). The tournament bracket is scheduled to be released Monday evening, April 29
