The Wayland Baptist men's soccer team fell shorts, 5-1 against the University of Texas at Dallas, marking their first loss of the season.
The Pioneers struck early and maintained their composure throughout, with Jamol Williams once again providing the spark offensively. Williams, who has scored in back-to-back matches, converted in the first half to keep WBU in control and energized heading into the break.
Defensively, Jesús Escobedo anchored the back line with another strong performance in goal, turning away multiple dangerous looks from the opposition. In front of him, Francis Motsi and Renato Katrip worked tirelessly to create pressure upfield, combining for several shot attempts and keeping the opposing defense under stress.
Wayland Baptist now turns its attention to its next challenge — a trip to Hobbs, N.M., where the Pioneers will take on the University of the Southwest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
