SHERMAN, Tex. -- Wayland Baptist women's soccer continued its strong start to the 2025 season, earning a 2-0 victory over Austin College Friday evening at the Pierce Complex. The win improves the Pioneers to 2-0 overall.
Â
The Pioneers controlled the pace throughout, outshooting the Kangaroos 10-7 and placing four shots on frame.
Cecilia Lopez opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Â
Wayland doubled its lead in the 73rd minute when sophomore forward
Aniyah Perez struck for her second goal in as many matches.
Â
Defensively, the Pioneers were rock solid. Goalkeeper
Ashley Lopez played a flawless 90 minutes without facing a shot on goal, as WBU limited Austin to just seven shots – none on target – for the match.
Â
Wayland's back line, anchored by
Narriah Gomez,
Ashley Perez, and
Talia Gisonni, kept the Kangaroos from generating quality chances, while the midfield pushed forward to create scoring opportunities.
Â
With the win, the Pioneers move to 2-0 on the young season and now turn their attention to the home opener. Wayland Baptist will host its first match at Hilliard Field on Wednesday, September 3 at 5:00 p.m.
