CANYON, TX -- Wayland Baptist women's soccer faced a tough challenge Saturday evening, falling 5-0 on the road against NCAA Division II West Texas A&M at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park.
The Pioneers (3-2-0) worked hard to slow down the Lady Buffs' attack but were under pressure early. West Texas A&M struck in the 7th minute and added another in the 15th, forcing Wayland to play from behind for most of the match. Two more goals late in the first half put the Pioneers in a 4-0 hole at the break.
Offensively, the Pioneers had limited chances but looked to create on the counter. Camila Zavala tallied the team's lone shot of the night, while Wayland earned a pair of corner kicks in the contest.
WT added one final goal in the 86th minute to close the scoring.
With non-conference play continuing, Wayland Baptist will look to bounce back quickly. The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, September 18th, when they travel to face Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
