Terry Shuts Down #20 TAMU-Victoria, Pioneers Complete Comeback Over Doane to Seal Saturday Sweep

VICTORIA, Texas --- Wayland Baptist baseball turned in a complete performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a doubleheader sweep at Riverside Stadium with a 4–1 win over #20 Texas A&M–Victoria and a dramatic 4–3 comeback victory against Doane.

The pair of wins highlighted timely offense, clutch pitching, and strong late-game execution as the Pioneers continued to build momentum early in the season.

Game One – Wayland Baptist 4, A&M–Victoria 1

Wayland Baptist opened the day with a resilient 4–1 victory behind a dominant pitching performance and a decisive fifth inning.

After A&M–Victoria scored in the bottom of the first, the Pioneers settled in defensively as starter Caden Terry took control on the mound. Terry went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five in seven innings of work.

Wayland broke through in the fifth inning.

Daniel Blickhan was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, and Edgard Bermudez entered as a pinch runner. Raphael Beltre followed with a double to left field, putting runners in scoring position. Ben Kasparie then delivered a two-run single to give Wayland its first lead of the game.

After Kasparie stole second, Cesar Ibarra moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. A. Bernal brought him home with a sacrifice fly before Christian Toledo capped the inning with a solo home run to make it 4–1.

The Pioneers finished with six hits in the contest. Kasparie led the way with two RBIs, while Toledo added a home run and an RBI. Terry closed out the game by retiring the final nine batters he faced.

Game Two – Wayland Baptist 4, Doane 3

The nightcap featured a late rally as Wayland Baptist erased a three-run deficit to earn a thrilling 4–3 victory over Doane.

Doane built a 3–0 lead through six innings, but Wayland remained within reach thanks to steady pitching from Antonio Mejia and Collin Arnold. Mejia worked 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts, while Arnold held Doane scoreless over the final 2.1 frames.

Wayland's comeback began in the seventh inning.

Rafaeleduardo Garcia reached base and advanced into scoring position before Blickhan singled to left field, driving in the Pioneers' first run. Later in the inning, Adonis Bernal delivered a clutch double to right-center field, bringing home Ibarra and Blickhan to tie the game at 3–3.

In the eighth, Garcia once again ignited the offense with a double. Bermudez came through off the bench, lining a single to center field to score Garcia and give Wayland its first lead of the game.

Arnold took care of the rest in the bottom of the eighth, retiring the side to secure the victory.

Bernal finished with two RBIs, while Blickhan and Bermudez each drove in a run during the late surge.
