Garcia Walks Off Game 2 To Clinch Friday Sweep of USAO

PLAINVIEW --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers delivered an exciting day at the ballpark on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader against Science & Arts with a pair of hard-fought victories, 9-8 and 11-10.

Game 1: Pioneers Hold Off Late Rally for 9-8 Win

Wayland Baptist (19-11) showed resilience in the opener, overcoming an early deficit and holding off a late push from Science & Arts to secure a 9-8 victory.

After surrendering three runs in the top of the first, the Pioneers answered immediately with a three-run blast off the bat of Christian Toledo to even the score. Toledo's early impact set the tone for a strong offensive showing.

The Pioneers continued to apply pressure in the third inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Miguel Sandoval and an RBI triple from Toledo, helping Wayland build a 6-3 lead.

Wayland extended its advantage in the fifth inning, capitalizing on patience at the plate with multiple walks that led to three more runs and a 9-4 cushion.

The Drovers made things interesting in the seventh, plating four runs and bringing the tying run to the bases, but Toledo returned to the mound and shut the door to earn the save.

Top Performers (Game 1): Wellington Vargas earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing just one run while striking out five.

Game 2: Walk-Off Magic Lifts Pioneers to 11-10 Victory

The nightcap turned into a back-and-forth thriller, but the Pioneers (20-11) once again found a way, walking off Science & Arts 11-10 in dramatic fashion.

After falling behind 3-0 early, Wayland Baptist responded with a huge five-run first inning, fueled by timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

The Pioneers added two more runs in the second and another in the third to build an 8-3 lead, but USAO refused to go away, rallying to tie the game at 10-10 in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wayland loaded the bases, and Rafaeleduardo Garcia delivered the game-winning RBI single to seal the sweep.

Top Performers (Game 2): Garrett Moseley picked up the win in relief, closing out the final inning to secure the victory.
