Pioneers Sweep Doubleheader Behind Explosive Offense, Strong Pitching

PLAINVIEW, Texas — Wayland Baptist softball delivered a dominant performance in Friday's doubleheader, sweeping Southwestern Christian University with a 5-4 win in game one followed by a commanding 10-5 victory in game two.

The Pioneers improved their record with a pair of conference wins, showcasing timely hitting and consistent pitching throughout the day.

In the opener, Wayland Baptist edged out a 5-4 victory behind a strong outing in the circle from Kynleigh Kirby. Kirby tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out six to earn her ninth win of the season.

Offensively, the Pioneers racked up 13 hits, using early production and late insurance runs to hold off Southwestern Christian. Wayland plated two runs in the first inning and added key runs in the third and sixth to secure the narrow win.

Wayland carried that momentum into game two, erupting for 10 runs in a 10-5 victory to complete the sweep. The Pioneers broke the game open with an eight-run third inning, turning a tight contest into a decisive advantage.

Logan Schultz led the way in the circle in game two, pitching 6.2 innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits to earn the win. She was supported by Brooklyn Ray, who came in to close out the final out.

At the plate, Wayland's offense stayed aggressive, totaling 10 hits and capitalizing on defensive miscues to keep pressure on Southwestern Christian throughout the contest.

A key standout across the doubleheader was Kynleigh Kirby, who delivered a complete-game performance in game one with six strikeouts and limited damage in crucial moments to secure the win.

With the sweep, the Pioneers continue to build momentum in conference play, combining offensive firepower with reliable pitching as they move forward in the season.
