PLAINVIEW, Texas — The Wayland Baptist Pioneers closed out their home schedule on Senior Day, honoring their senior class after falling in both games of a doubleheader to Texas Wesleyan.
The afternoon marked the final home games of the 2026 season, as Wayland recognized its seniors for their contributions to the program prior to first pitch.
Game 1
Wayland Baptist dropped a tightly contested opener, 3-2. The Pioneers got on the board in the second inning when Yaneli Jaramillo delivered an RBI double to score Brooke McLaurin.
Texas Wesleyan answered with a two-run fourth inning and added another run in the fifth to take the lead. Wayland threatened late and pushed across a run, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Brooke McLaurin and Brianna Cloud each led the offense with 2-for-3 performances at the plate.
Game 2
In the second game, Texas Wesleyan struck first and maintained control for much of the contest, limiting Wayland's opportunities offensively.
The Pioneers continued to battle throughout and found some production at the plate, but were unable to string together enough timely hits to erase the deficit. Texas Wesleyan capitalized on key moments to extend their lead and secure the sweep.
Wayland saw contributions from multiple hitters, but the early deficit proved difficult to overcome as the Pioneers dropped the finale.
Brianna Cloud provided the biggest offensive spark across the doubleheader, recording multiple hits on the day and driving in key runs to lead the Pioneers at the plate.
Despite the results, the Pioneers competed until the final out while celebrating their senior class in their last home appearance of the season. Wayland Baptist now shifts its focus to the road as it looks to close out the year strong.
Up next the Wayland Softball team will travel to Langston University. They are hoping to put a couple wins under their belt to position them high and earn a top 4 seed in the upcoming SAC Softball Championships.
