Pioneers Drop Doubleheader at Langston

LANGSTON, Okla. -- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers battled throughout a tough Sooner Athletic Conference road doubleheader on Friday but ultimately came up short in both contests against Langston, falling 4-1 in game one and 10-5 in game two.

Game 1: Langston 4, Wayland Baptist 1

Wayland Baptist outhit Langston 9-6 but was unable to capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities as the Lions used timely power hitting to secure the opener.

The Pioneers consistently put runners on base, led by a strong performance from Reagan Davis, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Mikayla Carrillo added two hits, including a double, and drove in Wayland's lone run in the seventh inning.

Despite the offensive production, Wayland struggled to deliver in key moments, leaving seven runners on base. The game remained within reach until the fifth inning when Langston broke things open with a three-run frame highlighted by a two-run home run and an RBI triple.

Kynleigh Kirby took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings while striking out five. Brooklyn Ray provided solid relief, holding Langston scoreless over the final 1.1 innings.

Wayland showed late life in the seventh as Davis singled and Carrillo drove her in, but the rally fell short as Langston closed out the 4-1 win.

Game 2: Langston 10, Wayland Baptist 5

The Pioneers came out swinging in game two, plating two runs in the first inning and extending the lead to 5-1 after a big third inning.

Wayland capitalized on early opportunities, drawing seven walks and stringing together timely hits. Kynleigh Kirby and Brianna Cloud each recorded two hits, while multiple Pioneers contributed RBIs in the early surge.

However, momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the third inning. Langston responded with a six-run inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues and clutch hitting to turn a four-run deficit into a 7-5 lead.

The Lions continued to add insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings, including a two-run home run that extended the lead. Wayland was unable to answer down the stretch, managing just two hits over the final four innings.

Logan Schultz was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs in three innings of work. The Pioneers' defense was tested throughout, with three errors contributing to Langston's offensive surge.
