Wayland Baptist Splits Doubleheader with Texas Wesleyan

The Wayland Baptist Pioneers split their doubleheader with Texas Wesleyan, dropping a competitive opener before responding with a strong all-around effort to take game two.

In the first game, both teams were locked in early as pitching controlled the pace through the opening innings. Texas Wesleyan was able to break through in the middle frames with timely hitting to edge in front and build a narrow lead. Wayland had multiple chances to respond, with contributions from Brooke McLaurin, Mikayla Carrillo, and Reagan Davis-Pena helping generate traffic on the bases and keep pressure on the Rams' defense. The Pioneers continued to threaten late, but were unable to come up with the key hit in run-scoring situations, ultimately falling 3–2 despite a steady effort offensively.

Game two featured a much stronger start for Wayland, as the Pioneers immediately set the tone at the plate. Brooke McLaurin and Carrillo helped spark the offense early with quality at-bats that led to consistent base runners and scoring opportunities. Wayland carried that momentum through the middle innings, turning offensive pressure into runs while the pitching staff worked efficiently in the circle to keep Texas Wesleyan from building any sustained momentum. Defensively, the Pioneers were sharp behind the pitching staff, limiting extra opportunities and closing down innings when needed. That balanced effort on both sides of the ball allowed Wayland to control game two from start to finish and secure the win.

Across the doubleheader, Wayland showed resilience in bouncing back after the opening loss. The Pioneers had strong individual performances throughout the lineup and were able to convert those efforts into a complete team win in game two to earn the split. Wayland leaves the day with momentum from the bounce-back win as they head towards the end of conference play.
