Snyder, TX - Wayland Baptist University Cross Country opened the season Friday with strong individual performances from both the men's and women's teams.
The men's team placed third with a team score of 74 points. Five Pioneers competed in the men's race,
Ryder Robison led the Pioneers, finishing 11th overall with a time of
18:58.64.
Israel Esparza followed closely behind in 12th place at
19:15.61.
Brandon Marines crossed the finish line in 16th with a time of
21:07.67, followed by
Diego Castaneda in 17th at
21:20.67.
Alex Naranjo rounded out the Pioneers' scoring lineup, finishing 18th in
21:23.02.
As a team, Wayland Baptist recorded a total time of
1:42:05.61, with an average time of
20:25.13.
On the women's side,
Aliyah Vasquez paced the Pioneers, finishing 11th overall with a time of
26:48.20.
Letticia Campbell finished 12th with a time of
31:32.86.
The season-opening meet provided both WBU squads with an opportunity to gain valuable race experience as they begin their 2026 campaign.
The Pioneers will continue their season at the NMJC Steve McCleery Invitational on September 11th.
