PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist University women's soccer battled Division II Adams State University to a scoreless halftime draw Thursday night at J.V. Hilliard Field before the Grizzlies scored twice in the second half to hand the Pioneers a 2-0 setback in their first home match of the 2026 season.

Wayland entered halftime locked in a defensive battle, with neither team able to find the back of the net through the opening 45 minutes. The Pioneers recorded five shots in the first half, including two from Lilly Gansauge and one each from Tannia Diaz and Nerea Garcia. Garcia's shot in the 38th minute was saved by Adams State goalkeeper Kena Keyes.

Adams State generated four shots in the opening half, but Wayland goalkeeper Ashley Lopez kept the Grizzlies off the scoreboard with three saves. The Pioneers also earned two corner kicks during the opening period.

The Grizzlies broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Keira Robertson scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Lorena Vargas-Galvan to give Adams State a 1-0 advantage.

Wayland continued to pressure the Grizzlies in search of an equalizer. Erin Carr had a shot saved by Keyes in the 77th minute, while Diaz forced another save less than two minutes later. Carr nearly found the equalizer in the 86th minute, but her shot struck the post.

Adams State added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, with Robertson scoring her second goal of the night on an assist from Annabell Haugen to make it 2-0.

Robertson finished with four shots on goal and accounted for both Adams State goals. The Grizzlies finished with 13 total shots, nine on goal, while Wayland recorded eight shots, four of which were on target.
Lopez turned in a strong performance in goal for the Pioneers, making eight saves over 90 minutes. Keyes recorded four saves for Adams State to preserve the shutout.

The Pioneers will return to action Sunday, Aug. 30, when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, to face Lubbock Christian University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
