LANGSTON, Okla. – Wayland Baptist Volleyball completed a perfect opening weekend of Sooner Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, defeating Langston University in four sets, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19, inside C.F. Gayles Field House.
The victory moved the Pioneers to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play after opening the SAC schedule with a sweep of Central Christian on Friday.
Wayland opened the match with a tightly contested first set. The Pioneers put down 13 kills and hit .188 in the frame, doing enough down the stretch to secure a 25-22 victory and take the early advantage.
Langston responded in the second set. Wayland struggled to find its rhythm offensively, finishing with nine kills and 10 attacking errors as the Lions evened the match with a 25-20 win.
The Pioneers quickly regained control in the third. Wayland recorded 14 kills and used a strong all-around effort to pull away for a 25-18 victory. WBU carried that momentum into the fourth, hitting .206 with 14 kills before closing out the match, 25-19.
Deniz Yileri powered the Wayland offense with a huge performance, finishing with a match-high 22 kills on 41 attempts while hitting .366. Yileri also recorded 10 digs to complete a double-double and finished with a team-high 23 points.
Brooklyn Bundy added seven kills while hitting .278 and recorded two solo blocks. Taisiia Kalchenko contributed six kills and led Wayland's presence at the net with three solo blocks and one block assist. Emma Scott added five kills along with two solo blocks and a block assist.
Chloe Gray directed the Pioneer offense throughout the afternoon, finishing with 35 assists, six digs and three kills.
Wayland's serving proved to be one of the biggest differences in the match. The Pioneers recorded 15 service aces compared to just four for Langston. Milena Alliot-Maslankiewicz led the charge from the service line with seven aces while also recording a team-high 12 digs. Lilou Henry-Souquet-Bressand added four aces, while Lovie Eastep-Harris contributed two.
The Pioneers leave their opening SAC road trip with a 2-0 conference record and improve to 6-4 overall as they continue the 2026 season.
