Hutcherson began flying the Queens at age 19

Mike Hutcherson flew for the first time at the age of 15.  When he was 19, he began helping his father out by piloting one of the planes used by the Wayland Baptist College Hutcherson Flying Queens.  Over four decades later at the time of his induction, he is president of Hutcherson Air Service and still transporting the Queens to many of their basketball games.

After graduating from Wayland in 1966 with a degree in Business Administration, Hutcherson went on to become owner and manager of Hutcherson Farms and Hutcherson Ranch, and co-manager of the Hale County Airport Board.  He is affiliated with the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association, and is an executive member of the Texas Airport Managers Association.

An active citizen of the city of Plainview for over three decades, he served for eight years on the Plainview City Council, acting as mayor pro tem from May ’97 to May ’98.  He also spent five years on the Plainview/Hale County Health Department Board, nine years on the Board of Directors of the Hale County Appraisal District, and served on the South Plains Association of Government.  He also served on the Board of Directors of City National Bank and the Plainview Industrial Foundation during the 1970’s.

Hutcherson, a 32nd degree Mason, holds lifetime memberships to the Texas Lion’s Camp and the Wayland “W” club.  He and his wife, Suzy, are frequent spectators at WBU athletic events, as well.  At the time of his induction, Hutcherson had four children, Ronda Riggin, Michael, Abbi and Taylor Hutcherson, one son-in-law, Caid Riggin, and one grandson, Nolan.
