Lightfoot continued storied career at WBU after setting bar as a prep

At the time of his induction into the Wayland Baptist University Athletic Hall of Honor, Randy Lightfoot was still regarded by many as the finest high school male track athlete ever produced by the Texas Panhandle.  When he graduated from Plainview High School in 1971, Lightfoot had established or tied six national prep records in the hurdles, and was the 1971 National High School Prep Champion in the 120-yard high hurdles.  In 1972, he was crowned the National Juniors Champion in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Lightfoot enrolled at Wayland Baptist in the fall of 1976.  He participated in both indoor and outdoor track and field, competing in the high hurdles, intermediate hurdles, relays, long jump and triple jump.  At the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field meet, Lightfoot ran a 7.37 in the 60-yard high hurdles to finish second and earn NAIA Indoor All-American status.

He helped lead the 1977 Pioneer outdoor team to second place finishes at both the Texoma Conference and NAIA District 8 championships.  Lightfoot earned a second NAIA All-American honor at the NAIA National Outdoor championships with a
second place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles.

During his time at Wayland, Lightfoot set school records in the 60-yard indoor high hurdles, the indoor 60-yard intermediate hurdles, and in 2001, he still holds the Pioneer record of 13.65 in the outdoor 120-yard high hurdles.

Both the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and the Amarillo Globe-News named Lightfoot as one of the Top 100 Sports Legends of the Texas Panhandle in 2000.  He and his wife, Penni, reside in Belton, TX in 2001, and have two sons, James and David.
