Miller found success in both collegiate and international ranks
When Carolyn Miller left Palestine, TX to begin her career at Wayland in 1957, the Flying Queens were in the midst of the longest winning streak in women's collegiate history. Miller immediately contributed to what would become 131-straight victories, helping the Queens to Amateur Athletic Union national titles in 1957 and 1959, a third place finish in 1958, and a second place finish in 1960. During her career, the Wayland women compiled a record of 111-7 and she received AAU All-American honors in both 1959 and 1960. She won the national Free Throw Championship in 1959 and was the Flying Queen's co-captain in 1960.
Miller also played extensively in the international arena. She was a member of the United States vs. Russia Tour in 1959-60 and was a co-captain on the U.S. Pan American team which won the 1959 championship. Following her career at Wayland, Miller continued to play basketball, competing in the World Tournament in 1967. She also earned a third AAU All-American honor competing for a Houston-based team in 1967, and served as manager of the U.S. Junior Team competing in South American in 1968. She also served as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1967-1971.
Prior to retiring in 1988, Miller taught and coached for 29 years in Texas institutions, including Pearland High School, Stephen F. Austin State University, Royal High School in Brookshire, McCullough High School in The Woodlands, and Taylor High School in Katy.
