Giovanni has been promoted to Assistant Coach of the Pioneer Track & Field programs after helping the Men's team earn their first SAC conference championship in program history. Gio is a former SAC conference discus Champion, SAC conference Decathlon runner-up, SAC conference shot put runner-up, SAC conference hammer throw 3rd place finish, and an NAIA Outdoor National Championship 12th place finish in the shot put
Finishing his collegiate career with one team and individual NJCAA national title, one team AAC conference title, five-time NJCAA All-American, three-time All-AAC first team, and a Big12 championship finalist. Giovanni was a JUCO transfer to the University of Cincinnati, where he would go on to place second at the AAC indoor championship, along with a third-place finish at the AAC outdoor championship in the shot put. Giovanni has the second all-time indoor mark at UC with a throw of 18.75 meters (61’5”) and a third all-time outdoor mark at 18.32(60’1”). Giovanni also competed in the Big12 conference for Cincinnati. Giovanni finished his time at Barton with a top-10 mark in the shot put at 18.32 meters (60’1”) and a NJCAA national title. Giovanni graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. He also graduated from Barton Community College with an Associate’s degree in criminal justice. Giovanni has throwing and coaching experience in all the throwing disciplines. (Shot put, discus, hammer/weight, javelin). Giovanni is the son of John J. and Maria N. Gutierrez, who are both immigrants from Colombia. Giovanni has an older brother, John F. Gutierrez.
