At the NWCA National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa, Vanessa went 2-1 in the 101-pound division. Smith got technical falls (12-0 and 11-0) against No. 5 Lindenwood and No. 1 King. In the third place dual against Oklahoma City, the freshman from Allen took on top-ranked Emily Webster, who had not surrendered a point all year. Smith was up late in the match, but fell on a controversial call, losing 14-12.
