Both Brooklyn and Pierre Banks broke school records and ran this seasons fastest times in the NAIA in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque. Brooklyn, a junior from Chicago, ran a time of 8.50 seconds to win the women's race and break LaTanya Nation's school record of 8.63 set in 2010. Pierre
After turning in a 7.92 in the men's preliminaries, Banks finished with an 8.03 in the finals to break a nine-year-old Wayland record, formerly held by Dustin Bothwell, who turned in an 8.21 in 2004. Pierre, after blazing to a 7.92 in the prelims, had an 8.03 in the finals to take second place and break Dustin Bothwell's record of 8.21 set in 2004.
“It was a big deal for Brooklyn and Pierre to break these records,” coach Rohan Thompson said. “They broke them with really fast times…times that would be in the top 30 in NCAA Division I. They are both ranked No. 1 in the NAIA. Neither of them ran for us last year because they were ineligible, so I'm really proud of them for sticking it out, and now the results are coming.”
