Nina qualified for NAIA Nationals in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches at the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet. An all-American last year, Sato, a junior who also plays basketball for the Flying Queens, had decided not to jump this year. But Coach Brian Whitlock approached her again a couple of weeks ago, asking if she might reconsider to help the Pioneers in their bid to win a national team title. "She had gotten a good (rest) after basketball, so she said she wanted to do it," Whitlock said. "If she can jump 5-7 she'll score (at nationals). With a few more weeks of practice I think she'll get there."
