Kyra, a freshman nursing major from Plainview, helped the cheer team to a fifth-place showing and a much-improved score at the NAIA Southwest Qualifier in Oklahoma City.
 
Kyra and the rest of the team raised their score significantly at this event compared to last year. In 2019, Wayland’s score was 65.17, while this year the team scored 74.62.
 
Kyra was a big part of the improvement, according to coach Samantha Spieler.
 
“Kyra started out the year as one of our strongest bases. After our flyer was injured in our first competition, Kyra went in as a flyer and has done an amazing job. I’m proud of the hard work she has put into changing positions in the remainder of competition season,” Spieler said.
