Els placed fourth at last week's Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. His top-5 finish helped lead his team to a second place finish, trailing only No. 2 Oklahoma City, the tournament champion. Els shot a 76-75-75 for a tournament score of 226, earning him all-conference honors.

Furthermore, Els was recognized at Wayland's athletic banquet on Sunday as the winner of the Manning Trophy. The trophy goes to the golfer who has the lowest stroke average over the entire season.
