Box Score DALLAS, Texas --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers put together another good defensive effort in a 66-46 victory over Dallas Christian College on Monday evening. It was the fifth straight victory for the WBU men who are now 5-0 on the season.
Coach Robert Davenport said his team played hard and controlled the boards in what was a very physical game.
""We had a good scouting report and the guys are starting to learn their assignments. Our defensive effort was good tonight. It was a physical game, but we took the foul and played through it. We need to get used to that style, because it is something that we're going to see a lot more of when we get to conference play."
When the two teams met in Plainview on Friday night, there were 50 fouls called in the game and the Wayland made 32 trips to the free throw line. On Monday, WBU had seven fewer free throw attempts.
All but one Pioneer scored against the Crusaders. George Williams led the way with 13 points. Johnny Terra added 11, and Desmaan Robinson contributed ten.
Davenport pointed out the play of freshman Nate Harbour, who finished the game with eight points.
"Nate played really well. He didn't see action until the second half, but he came off the bench and did a good job of handling himself out there."
Other Pioneers to get their names on the scoresheet were C'Jamarion Leashore with 7, Josh Teague with 6, Rodrigo Silva with 5, Desmond Jones with 2, and Curtis Stuckey and John Hemingway with 1 point each.
Davenport's team committed 17 turnovers, three fewer than they had at home against the Crusaders.
"We took care of the ball a lot better tonight, I thought," said Davenport. "Of course, we would like the number to be even lower, but considering the type of game that was, I'm not too upset."
Wayland took a 31-20 lead into the dressing room at the half, and outscored the opponent 35-26 in the final period.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday with an exhibition game in Canyon against West Texas A&M. Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 7 pm.
