PLAINVIEW, Tex. --- The Wayland Baptist women's soccer team has had trouble scoring goals all season long, and Tuesday evening was no exception as the Pioneers fell in their final game of the year, 2-0 to Lubbock Christian University.
Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored six seniors -- Najuka Anderson, Amber Perez, Roxanne Paslay, Jenee' Norris, Hill and Kylie Middleton -- who were playing their final game in a Pioneer uniform. Anderson, Perez, Norris and Middleton are four-year letterwinners, while Paslay just completed her second year as a Pioneer, and Hill joined the WBU soccer team for the first time in 2010.
Anderson, a psychology major from Lubbock, is WBU's all-time leader in every offensive category including points scored, goals scored and game winning goals. A biology major who is also from Lubbock, Perez is among the top ten in most every offensive category. Norris, a sociology major from Pampa, has spent most of the past four seasons defending the opponents' best offensive player, and is second in games played and among the top ten in assists, while Middleton, who is a math education major from Lubbock, is the career leader in goalkeeper wins, saves and shutouts.
Paslay from Garland, Tex. and Hill from San Angelo, are both majoring in Exercise and Sports Science.
The Pioneers came out ready to play in the contest against LCU, limiting the Lady Chaps to just five shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
The visitors didn't get onto the scoreboard until the 66:32 mark when Allysa Deutsch took a long pass from Ashley Griffis, dribbled around a charging Middleton, and put the ball into the back of the net.
Eleven minutes later, Whitley Gillit took a crossing pass through the box from Kaylyn Settle to make it 2-0. The win was the 9th of the season for the Lady Chaps, who are 9-7-2 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play.
Hill had four of Wayland's ten shots. Freshman Emarie Holland put both of her shots on net. Ashley Woodall, a junior, and sophomore Courtney Chambers also forced saves by the LCU goalkeeper.
All five of the Pioneers' shots on goal came in the second half when they had a stiff northerly breeze at their backs.
The WBU women conclude the season with an overall record of 2-15 and 0-11 in league play.
