Najuka Anderson, the WBU all-timescoring leader, recorded the firstpoint of the contest, just two and a half minutes in.USW's Neima Martinez tied it up on an unassisted goal seven minutes later.
Katherine Stewart,a freshman who played the first half of the game in net for the Pioneers, got the game's final point early in the second period. TheWichita Falls Rider graduate leads the team ingoals this season with five.
Despite the early lead, the Wayland women started out looking too relaxed, according to their coach Shiloh Posey.
"We got that first goal and seemed to put it on cruise control. Our passing wasn't good, and there was an overall lack of communication. I thought we played much better in the second half. We started playing together as a unit. Overall, it wasn't pretty, but we'll take everything that we can get at this point."
Freshman Corita Kraemer and senior Roxy Paslay got the assists on Anderson's goal. Norris picked up another point with an assist on the final tally.
WBU outshot the Lady Mustangs 30-10, putting 12 shots on goal, to just two by the visitors. Anderson, senior Haley Hill and freshman Emarie Holland led the Pioneers with six shots each.
Posey's squad gets four days off before traveling to Bethany, Okla. where they will take on NAIA newcomer Southwestern Christian University on Saturday afternoon.
