Offense Explosion at the Hutch

Box Score

The Pioneers hit the 90-point mark for the first time this season on Thursday at Hutcherson Center snapping a seven-game losing streak in the process with a 90-78 victory over Mid-America Christian University.

Four WBU men scored in double figures, paced by junior center Rodrigo Silva with 19. George Williams and Bobby Watkins added 17 each, and C'Jamarion Leashore had a season-high 14. Johnny Terra contributed nine points, and Josh Teague and Nathan Harbour came off the bench to put in seven a piece.  Watkins got his fourth double-double of the season as the junior forward also hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

MACU got off to a blazing start, hitting four three-pointers on its first four possessions to jump out to a 12-1 lead. The Evangels would make one more trey before finally missing a long-range attempt five minutes into the game.

The Pioneers got back in it with a 12-0 run that turned a 22-13 deficit into a 24-22 advantage.

Wayland went into the dressing room at the half up by one point, 48-47, but the visitors scored the first four points of the second period to regain the lead.

That would be the final time MACU found itself on top, though, as the Pioneers took off with another 12 straight points to grab the lead for good.

Leashore did most of his damage in the final 20 minutes, scoring ten points, hitting both of his field goal attempts and making 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. He also had four of his game-high seven assists in the second half.

WBU finished the game shooting 60 percent from the field and were 5-of-10 from behind the arch. After their fast start from long range, the Evangels cooled off considerably, hitting just two of their final 15 three-point attempts.

Brandon Williams put in 17 points for MACU, which fell to 10-9 overall and 6-7 in league action.

The Pioneers (7-13, 2-11) will attempt to make it two-in-a-row on Saturday with a 3 pm contest against Oklahoma City University, 76-72 winners over Lubbock Christian on Thursday night.
