Box Score All 11 Pioneer players got their names on the scoresheet in a 95-59 shellacking of Dallas Christian College at Hutcherson Center on Friday evening, and it was two returning seniors that led the way.
Johnny Terra came off the bench to hit six of seven three-pointers and scored a team-high 21 points, and George Williams was a perfect four-for-four from long distance and put in 17 points for the WBU men.
"It was good to see Johnny hit so well," said Pioneer Coach Matt Garnett, whose team picked up its second straight victory and third of the season. "He has been doing a really good job in practice, and I think tonight was a product of all that hard work."
After DCC took a 9-6 lead three and a half minutes into the contest Williams went to work, hitting back-to-back treys to give his team a lead they never relinquished.
The Pioneers went into the intermission up by 23 as a result of some torrid shooting. WBU hit 18 of its first 26 shots (69.2%) from the field, including 7-of-9 (77.8%) from behind the arch.
The big lead eventually stretched to 44 with just under nine minutes remaining on the clock when junior post David Cone hit a jumper in the paint.
WBU cooled off only slightly in the second half, hitting 64 percent from the field. Five more three-pointers went in, three from Terra and one each from Williams and Chad Turner. The Pioneers ended up hitting 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the three-point line.
Isaiah Jackson added 13 points, and he and Cone pulled down eight rebounds each. Senior point guard Jamie Eisinger got the double-double with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting and handed out a season-high ten assists.
Garnett said that even though it is always good to get a win, his team must stay focused on getting better every day.
"I'm excited about the win. Tonight we took care of the ball, and everyone contributed. It was a good team effort and we got to see a lot of different guys in different situations.
"That being said, the opposition is going to keep getting better from here on out, both the nonconference and conference opponents. We know what's coming, so we need to take a look at our mistakes and find ways to improve."
The Pioneers have three more nonconference games left, all on the road, before the Sooner Athletic Conference season gets underway the first weekend in December. First up are two games in Lancaster, Calif. against West Coast Baptist College on Sunday and Monday. The WBU men then return to Texas to celebrate Thanksgiving before a short road trip to Odessa to play the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday, Nov. 26.
Wayland does not return to Hutcherson Center again until Dec. 8 when the Queens and Pioneers take on archrival Lubbock Christian in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
