Men's Results AMARILLO – With the fall semester quickly coming to a close, the No. 18 Wayland Baptist men's and No. 9 women's wrestling teams competed against multiple schools Saturday in the Raider Duals and completely dominated.
Wrestling at Randall High School, the WBU men swept their competition for the day, defeating Central Baptist College (Ark.) 51-5, Bacone College (Okla.) 33-18, the University of Texas-Arlington club team 59-0 and Wounded Duck from Richland Community College in Dallas, 46-6.
The Pioneers who stood out the most were seniors
Andrew Porras at 133 pounds,
Kane Lovvorn at 149,
Victor Thomas at 157,
Mich Napier at 184, and
Markese Christian at 285. Coach
Aaron Meister was especially impressed with Christian, who is 10-0 on the season so far.
"Christian led the way," Meister said.
Women's scores were not kept because they were exhibition matches. Despite that, their performance was as equally commanding as the men's team.
"They only dropped one out of 15-20 matches," Meister said.
Meister's goal for this meet was to give younger wrestlers experience against competition at the collegiate level. It didn't hurt that as a team they controlled each of the duals.
"As a team we were very dominating. We did well from the top to the bottom," Meister said. "It was good to wrestle in our own backyard and get some community support. It was a good way to finish our semester."
At the end of the semester, the men and women will begin having separate meets as the men travel to Las Vegas Dec 21 to compete in the Desert Duals. The women's next competition is the NCWA National Duals on Jan. 8 and 9 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
