Hawkins 3-for-3 as SAC Attacker of the Week

For the third time in as many weeks, Wayland Baptist's Shahala Hawkins has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week.

The 6-foot senior middle from Denver City had 14 kills in 19 attempts without an error in No. 23 Wayland's lone match last week, a 3-0 win over Southwestern Christian that served as the Pioneers' home- and Sooner Athletic Conference opener. She hit .737, had one ace, two solo blocks and five block assists.

Hawkins leads the NAIA in hitting percentage (.422) and kills per game (5.320) and is No. 6 in blocks per game (1.520).

Other SAC honors went to Oklahoma City's Dani Chase for Defender of the Week and to OCU's Hannah Mitcham as Setter of the Week.

The Pioneers (10-3, 1-0 SAC) next play at 7 p.m. Tuesday against UT-Permian Basin in Odessa before returning home and returning to SAC play at 7 p.m. Friday against Bacone and at 11 a.m. Saturday against John Brown.
