Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Wayland Baptist women's soccer coach
Shiloh Posey came away much more encouraged following his team's second outing of the young season here Sunday evening, a 3-1 loss to Newman University (Kan.).
"We played much more focused, and the team implemented what we talked about (Saturday) night," Posey said. The Pioneers dropped their season-opener on Saturday, also in Wichita, to Friends University, 4-0.
Sophomore
Anika Munoz-Perez, one of only a handful of veterans for the young Pioneers, scored Wayland's first goal of the season. Posey said it came unassisted "on a set piece from about 25 yards out."
The goal was one of four shots for Wayland, two of which were on goal. Newman, which considered the match an exhibition, wound up with 10 shots. WBU goalies
Bailey Stengler and
Erin Moon, who relieved Stengler for the final 8½ minutes, combined for three saves.
Posey said everyone saw action for the Pioneers.
"I'm proud of the effort that was given by each player," the coach said.
Wayland plays its next three matches at home, starting with its home debut Sept. 5 against Texas-Permian Basin starting at 6 p.m. The Pioneers then entertain Huston-Tillotson on Sept. 9 and No. 21 Our Lady of the Lake on Sept. 16.
