Results ODESSA – Wayland Baptist qualified numerous swimmers for NAIA nationals and overall performed well at a season-opening dual against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin here Friday.
WBU coach Alyson Hannan said the meet "went pretty well. We got a bunch of cuts for nationals, which is always good."
UTPB out-pointed Wayland in both the men's (108-97) and women's (130-72) duals.
Hannan said the Pioneers must get in better shape, which she assured they will as the season progresses.
"I felt like we went into the meet ready to race but didn't have it at the end of the races," she said. "I think we need to go and condition a little bit more as we continue to focus on the strength and the specialization of our strokes."
Wayland will host the Wayland Invitational Oct. 21 and 22 at the Pete Ragus Center in Lubbock. Four schools will join Wayland at the event.
"We'll be ready for the next one," Hannan said.
